Underspecification in Voice systems and the syntax-morphology interface

The Corpus of Modern Greek Deponent Verbs

We currently work on the Deponent verbs in Modern Greek. For this purpose we compiled the Corpus of Deponent Verbs. Deponents are defined here as verbs that appear in the Non-Active-form only (i.e. they lack Active counterparts), regardless of their semantics and syntax (i.e. whether they are transitive or intransitive, or have an active or experiencer meaning). Six different dictionaries of MG have been examined comparatively in order to select the corpus of MG deponents. Data have been further compared with native speakers' usage from newspapers, TV series and internet. For further information please see

  • Zombolou, K. and A. Alexiadou (to appear). The canonical function of deponent verbs in Greek. IN Current Issues in Linguistic Theory. John Benjamins.

If you wish to work with this corpus, we will be happy to share. Please send us an email to katerina.zombolou@ifla.uni-stuttgart.de
